Regional Coordinators Elected for the Central and Western Regions

The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), led by its President, Mr. Andrew Danso-Aninkora of Kessben FM, conducted joint elections for Regional Coordinators who would be assisted by deputies for both the Central and Western regions in Takoradi at the Grand Favor Hotel on Friday, 16th February 2018.

The meeting also sought to create the opportunity for members in the two regions to meet the newly elected Executive Council and hold interactions with them on the way forward for the association especially in the respective regions.

Philip Nana Koah of Max FM in Enchi stood unopposed as the Western Regional Coordinator with Bless Korku Borkloe of Radio Silver as his Deputy. In delivering his address on why he feels confident of leading GIBA Members in the region, he stated that he was conversant with the problems, difficulties and challenges of the region as well as merits in radio broadcast industry in Ghana, the operations and activities of GIBA. He acknowledged that the radio broadcast business is supposed to facilitate the development of the economy and the industry especially in the region, but this is yet to be achieved. He added that given the mandate, he together with his deputy would do their best for the good of the association in the region.

Nana Yaw Ayensu of Obrempon FM got a second term of being a Regional Coordinator for the Central Region after he stood unopposed for the position. Gideon Eyinful of Nkwa FM and Samuel Osomafo-Ehuran of Coastal FM competed for the position of Deputy Regional Coordinator with Gideon Eyinful emerging victorious. Nana Yaw Ayensu stated that during his first term as Regional Coordinator for the Central Region, he had managed to convince a few stations to join GIBA. This he hopes to build upon while coordinating the activities of members in the region. Gideon Eyinful also stated that prior to taking up the role of Deputy Regional Coordinator, he had been assisting Nana Yaw Ayensu in carrying out some of his duties. The position therefore formalizes the role he has already been playing and he pledged to support the Regional Coordinator to grow the membership in the region.

The President of GIBA charged both Regional Coordinators and their deputies to lift high the name of GIBA while helping to grow and strengthen the association. He pledged the support of the Executive Council and assured them of assistance when needed. The Executive Council wished them well in all their undertakings.
